I found a fairly good list of software for Ubuntu that includes many of my favorites and a few I haven’t heard of. Some I like are VLC, Amarok, Compiz, and a few others. The list is worth looking at.

I usually have a transparent-ish terminal, but this is a step above – it blurs the background of it for better readability. Unfortunately, the blur effect almost freezes my computer. I can’t figure out why. I’m running an ATI Mobility Radeon x2100. I use the Cube, wobbly windows, rain, effects, transparency, etc. Anyone know why [...]

I used TrueCrypt rather often on Windows when I used it. I know there was a linux version available, but I never got into it. Now with the recent release of TrueCrypt 5.0, Linux has a gui.
